There Once Was a Girl From Oregon...

May 7, 2003

Um. Hi. Remember me? I, uh... I'm that person who rambles. Or rather, I was. I kinda haven't done that recently.

See, it all started when life kinda got screwy. Okay, even more screwy. I became sidetracked, and rambling took a back seat to real life. I've never been a fan of real life anyway, but this was especially annoying.

But I decided to screw all that and take some time to ramble. After all, you've all gone through Tango the Wonder Kitty story withdrawal, I'm sure. I wouldn't want to deprive you any longer. It just wouldn't be right.

Before we start, let's get the non-funny stuff out of the way with a quick rundown on my life -- I've been not feeling well, my girlfriend and I broke up, my 13-year-old dog got sick and I thought she was going to die but fortunately she didn't, my mom's health has taken a turn for the worse, and various other things I'll skip on over so I don't bore you to death. Not until I finish rambling, at least.

Oh, and I dumped the Purple Plaything (a Honda Scooter). No, I didn't crash, exactly. I was going down my sloped driveway and I slowed down to wave at my dog who was looking at me through the window (it was the first time she'd done that since before she got sick), and I kinda slid on the moss (there's moss everywhere 'round here due to big trees everywhere you look) on the driveway. The bike just fell over. I cracked one of my turn signal light covers, but there was no other damage. Well, my leg was kinda sore that day. The bike kinda landed on it. But, really, that's it.

That was my first brush with crashing on the Plaything. I've put a whopping 3000 miles on it now, which, considering I can't go over 30mph and have to stay in my little town since I can't go on the highway, isn't too bad.

In Tango the Wonder Kitty news, where do I start -- with the balloon, the bungie cord, or self-serve catnip? The balloon, since I have a picture to go with it.

In March I turned 29 (I know, I'm old, so very old). My sister-in-law gave me a helium-filled balloon, which took up residence in my bedroom, floating along the ceiling for a month until it finally started to droop down near the floor. A couple of days ago, Tango came trotting in the family room, happily leading the balloon around by its ribbon. He spent the day playing with the balloon, chasing it all over the house... even sleeping with it. Yes, really. Take a look:

Just a boy and his balloon. He did end up splitting the side of the balloon, but he kept playing with it for days after that.

He's really quite the thief, now that I think about it. The other day he stole an 18" rubber bungie cord from a table and carried it to another room... he's stolen shoes, the stylus from my Palm (which I finally found after a couple of months), various pens and Chapsticks, and so on.

He also does his best to steal the catnip... if only he could figure out how to get the lid off the catnip can by himself. We used to keep the container on the first shelf of a cupboard in the kitchen, but he figured that out right quick, so we moved it up to the second shelf, thinking he couldn't reach it. Boy, are we stupid. He now has this thing where he knocks a box of crackers (always the same box) from the first shelf, then knocks down his catnip from the second shelf. We had to move the cats' treats bags up to the second shelf, too. We can't move them up any higher, because, being the extremely tall person I'm not, I can barely reach the second shelf, and the third is out of the question. Tango would figure out a way up there, anyway.

I love the little guy, but he's a major pain the posterior end.

But he has his sweet side, too. When my dog, Kira, was ill, Tango spent a good deal of time just laying near her, keeping her company. Tango adores Kira, and he was worried about her. He's a happy camper now Kira's getting back to her old self. I wonder how Tango will take it when Kira does pass on. I may have to get my cat another dog.

In other news, I have to ask a question. It's perfectly acceptable for a 29-year-old to buy a Spongebob Squarepants talking doll for oneself, isn't it? Because I did that the other day. It was $4.99. He's adorable. His eyes pop out of his head and he speaks several phrases. And, if one leave it turned on and standing on its feet and then it falls over, it will give one quite the surprise when it starts talking all of the sudden. Especially at night when one is sleeping. He's top heavy and has really small legs, so he falls over a lot.

I think he looks quite nice hangin' with my M&M dudes and dudettes on my shelf above my desk. My brother and his wife keep buying me M&M stuff, so I've been really adding to my collection as of late. I should take pictures of them one of these days. It's not a huge collection. Yet. I'm working on it.

I'm going to wrap this up, and apologize for my absence. I'll try not to make it another almost three months before I ramble again.

You know... feedback might inspire me to write more often. ;)
