The Dog Days of Summer

August 13, 2003

It's brown. The carpet, I mean. In the family room. A lovely semi-pile with varying degrees of brown-ness.

I mention this only to remind myself of what it is, underneath all that... fur. It's impossible to walk in the family room, our primary place of residence within the house, without stepping on fur-covered bodied of the canine variety.

That is because we now have four dogs.

Four. When last I rambled, I had but two dogs, an old chow and a rottweiler I acquired via a rescue a couple of months ago.

But now we have four. Somehow, they multiplied... which, frankly, is a neat trick since the chow is fixed and the rottweiler hasn't had any other male callers. Not to mention they produced two 8 or possibly 9 year old springer spaniels. They're sisters we acquired via yet another rescue. It's not my fault, I swear. Okay, the rottweiler is my fault, but the two latest are so not my fault.

Anyway. So, now we have four dogs who feel the constant need to be around us all the time. The rottweiler, Shasta, is my best bud, so she follows me wherever I go (yes, that includes the bathroom). If only she could somehow fit on my Purple Plaything (which, incidentally, is still a scooter and not a sex toy), she would go traveling about town with me, as well. But, being as she's 85 pounds and probably wouldn't fit in the glove compartment, and technically I'm not allowed to have passengers, anyway, I guess that's out.

But she is adorable. Wanna see?

That's her, on my bed, all wrapped up in blankets. Did I mention she sleeps with me? Did I mention I sleep in a twin-sized bed? Did I mention she likes to spoon?

Did I mention I seriously need a life?

But she's my best bud, and I love the not-so-little thing.

In other animal news, Tango the Wonder Kitty, who was once afraid of the rottweiler and hid in the garage for days, is now so over that and has happily moved on to teasing the dogs. It's one of his favorite pastimes. Strangely enough, he doesn't get into as much trouble as he once did, though. He's still a little devil, but he seems to have grown up just a bit.

That is just too strange to contemplate.

In other news, I decided to go stupid (okay, extra stupid) and went and dropped my cell phone in the toilet the other day. Yes, after using said toilet and before flushing. It was a joy fishing the phone out and then trying to clean it. I thought for sure the phone would be beyond repair and I'd have to replace it, which would have sucked, being as I'm kind of a month behind on my cell payment.

But, I am happy to report it has risen from the dead to once again connect me to all my fabulous friends (ha!), but mainly so I can call home after I've gone to the grocery store and realized I've forgotten my list. I do that frequently.

I have issues. Many, many issues.

*sigh*

Speaking of issues, thus concludes yet another issue of my ramblings. Tune in next time when I will absolutely will NOT be reporting my getting any more dogs.

I hope.
